Week 8 Thing 20
Went to the Ning Classroom 2.0 link. Would this be good to use with parents? I’m wondering if this would be better than a blog or not as good as a blog? One link on livescribe was particularly interesting. This looks is the link so that I can come back and read on it. http://www.classroom20.com/forum/topics/livescribe-anyone-using-it

Week 8 Thing 19
Enjoyed looking over my Christmas vacation travels. Google Earth is a lot greener than the blizzard I experienced trying to drive through over Christmas. Really enjoyed the weather layer as I was able to compare the weather in CO to the weather in MT.
It would be neat to take a picture of Aspen Valley High School, come back to this link and add a picture of Aspen Valley High School http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BlecrkM7w4&eurl=http://earth.google.com/outreach/tutorial_mapper.html
Help! I wanted to see the math link to the tsunamis but it appears broken. Anyone out there able to help? Thank you?

Week 8 Thing #18
Went to slide share and watched a The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs. This is a great one to see!! When I teach students to give a PowerPoint presentation, they always make them too long. I may share this with students as well as trying to apply it in my own presentations. Maybe I’ll go tweet about it. http://www.slideshare.net/cvgallo/the-presentation-secrets-of-steve-jobs-2609477
Here is an attempt at embedding it!

Week 7 Thing #17 cont
Went to the EPN link and listened to the Drop Out Nation Podcast.

It was on giving parents more power.

Week 7 Thing 17
Listened to the Wikipedia sample of podcasts at Learn out Loud. Went and searched for some podcasts. Downloaded a podcast of insane Canadian fisherman and listened to it on itunes. Both the download and the playing were successful. Successfully downloaded some "news" podcasts. I’ve gone and searched on two different days for math podcasts and am still looking for better material. Tried to download the recording of John Merrow on National Board Certified Teachers to itunes. It is downloaded but does not play. Would like to learn how to put podcasts onto a ipod. The link to Podcasting station currently mentioned that it couldn’t find the server
Week 7 Thing 16
I like to start my multimedia classes with a short youtube video clip. It is a fun way to start the class and it is an activity that student’s don’t’ like to miss. (It encourages them to be there for the start of class). Sometimes I take role on another computer while the clip is showing. While I occasionally show an interesting clip, like this or

Week 6 Thing 15
Windows Movie Maker is awesome! I was a little tentative when making the movie in the class. I took a video of my room and it worked fine. To keep up on it I was taking random video and took a video of a car fire during the Thanksgiving Holiday. It downloaded onto my computer but I was unsuccessful on several attempts at getting it imported into Movie Maker. I tried changing the file options, clicking and dragging, copying and pasting and the import option. I ended up using some video that a student asked me to look at. I tried to delete part of it but it shows up on the final product. In addition, the music didn’t work correctly for me so I will want to revisit this and try to figure out the reason. Interestingly, the title feature worked great. Movie Maker is worth revisiting and getting the problems ironed out because my multimedia students will love this!!

Week 6 Thing 14
On Voice Thread the hustle was a nostalgic blast. Here is the link which includes my typed comment. http://voicethread.com/#q+hustle.b67958.i350012 It got me to thinking about how to use this with my students. . Recently one of my students went around the school and interviewed students on sexism. It would be interesting to post it on voicethread. The challenge would be posting the pictures of kids and the copyright on the must. (The hustle song left me wondering about the copyright)

Week 5 Thing 13
I have been playing in Google docs. I like the idea of sharing the creation of documents. It would be good for committee work or collaboration between teams. I think it would be really great for teams of online learners or home schoolers.

Week 5: Thing 12
Looking through these wiki’s I was awed by the design and artistic ability. Where does a math teacher start? Definitely I’ll be looking for some design and artistic ideas. On the Albany site, the flick link is missing. This surprised me and I wondered why? Here is the link to my wiki. http://mrsvandyken.pbworks.com/FrontPage It is a work in progress. I also went and played in the D-20 sandbox. The numbers to the things are incorrect because I missed the tweet entry. I'll get it corrected.
Week 4: Thing 10 and Thing 11
I started an accound on Delicious. I was very intereseted in the tag cloud and wanted to make a couple of large clouds with a new printer at our school. I tried to create a tag cloud with Euclid’s elements but it isn’t downloading correctly. Next I will try something else. Found several tag clouds that I liked. Ended up making a couple of clouds with the names of my puma students. I lost one that I liked so when I got another one, I saved it via print screen and made a jpeg. I’ll try and add it to the blog.
Week 4: Thing 9
Looking at social bookmarking sites. I looked for people and I looked for math sites. Created an account on delicious. I also set up a twitter account and am trying tweeting. My students were talking about tweeting today. They think it is just for old people. I laughed
Week 3: Thing 8
Reading through the blogs over other class members was great. I tried to comment on one of the blogs but it didn’t work. I should be able to e-mail the person tomorrow to see if they received an e-mail.
Week 3: Thing 7
I have set up a gmail account with RSS feeds. I’m finding that I am inundated with feeds. Is this something that I will be able to keep up on?

Week 2: Thing #6
When I saw the assignment on the Glog, I wasn’t very thrilled; however, when I got into it, I could see Glogs enhancing the multimedia class in place of a PowerPoint Life Story. I would also like to use a Glog as part of a fractal assignment for geometry. Currently, I am stuck trying to incorporate my Glog on my Wiki
Week 2: Thing 5
3rd party mashups are kind of interesting but this is also something that actually disappoints me. Just imagine how I felt going online to look on a map only to see that someone has taken pictures of my house and posted them on the map. Since the house has been in my family since it was built, this feels really kind of creepy

Thing #4
Here is a picture that was taken near where I grew up. According to the Creative Commons tag, it is okay to share this picture. http://www.flickr.com/photos/swift/257351294/
Thing #3
This is a particularly interesting assignment. Obviously the safest usage would only be to use created materials. Students in the multimedia class like to use pictures off the internet. Reading about creative comons was good and the blog on attributes was good. I also like the quiz from St Francis, but I'm still not ready to teach about copyrights to my students and it is an area that I want to both model and teach.

Thing #2B
In reading through the material concerning Thing#2 there were several thoughts I wanted to revisit. First off, I learned that a voki is a personalized speaking avatar. Has anyone ever added one to their blog in this class? Secondly, I wondered about additional templates such as the Peanut Gallery blog. Finally I am still wondering when it would be best to use a blog and when it would be best to use a wiki. There was some good information on Copyrights but I still am pondering how to best incorporate it into a lesson for my students.
Thing #1
What do I hope to get out of this class? The technology changes so incredibly fast that I feel as if I am continually immigrating into a new technological country. A couple of years ago I tried to set up a blog with students in my Puma Class. It didn’t work with e-mails, etc. Now I am hoping to return and have success. I am also looking for good lessons on copyrights for my students. The movie maker class looks incredible and I know my students would love to make movies and use the Flip camera. All of the material we are learning could be incorporated into my classes immediately. I am hoping to become comfortable enough with it to use it in a day to day basis.
